France is one of the important textile and garment powers in Europe. Especially in the field of textiles, France ranks second in Europe and once accounted for 5% of the world market, second only to Germany. In Germany, the turnover of high value-added technical textiles accounts for 40% of the entire German textile industry. With the development of globalization and international division of labor, facing major challenges such as competition from emerging countries with low labor costs, rising international crude oil prices and rising environmental protection calls, France has successively launched a number of development strategies to revitalize the textile and garment industry in recent years. The apparel industry is positioned as a “future industry”.

It is worth mentioning that the French fashion industry is extremely developed. France has five world-renowned famous brands (Cartier, Chanel, Dior, Lacoste, Louis Vuitto), and has a huge share in the global clothing market. In order to assist other brands to establish business models for different markets in France, the Ministry of Employment of France, Finance and Economics integrated the textile industry to fund the establishment of the Textile and Apparel Innovation Network (R2ITH) to promote product innovation and strengthen industry cooperation. The network combines the 8 major competitiveness centers of the regional government, more than 400 manufacturers, universities and colleges and other networks.
The re-emergence of the French textile industry relies mainly on mechanization and innovation, especially in fabrics. French textile companies are committed to the innovation and production of “smart fabrics” and ecological technology fabrics. As early as 2014, China became France’s third largest textile exporter outside the EU.
France has one of the four most famous fashion weeks in the world – Paris Fashion Week. Paris Fashion Week has always been the finale of the four major fashion weeks in the world. Paris Fashion Week originated in 1910 and was hosted by the French Fashion Association. The French Fashion Association was established at the end of the 19th century, and the highest purpose of the association is the status of Paris as the fashion capital of the world.
